Rachel + Thomas | Robert Mills House Wedding Featured on Smitten

Thomas and Rachel’s story was truly told throughout their wedding day. Their steadfast love for one another is what they strived to share with their guests. Every single detail had a purpose and meaning. Each detail that played a role in their wedding day was either a family heirloom, handmade by the bride or groom, or borrowed from a special family member.

Rachel’s father suddenly passed away from a rock climbing accident when she was in high school. Rachel wanted to honor him and include some of his memories throughout her wedding day, but especially in her details. Along with her details, she included her grandfather’s wedding band, her father’s last pocket square, and she gifted her groom with a pair of her father’s cuff links. Y’all, all the emotions were running high when I was going through her details box. Never have I felt the weight of legacy like I did on this day.

Among other family heirlooms was her Great Grandfather’s bible, her mother’s garter, and the communion table that is her mothers. The cross for the ceremony was built by Thomas and the invitation suite was designed by Ray herself. Every single detail of this day was special and significant.

There were tears, so many prayers, so many deep breaths throughout the day. Rachel was walked down the aisle by her two brothers, tears streaming from all of their eyes, and her grandfather met them at the end to give her away in honor of his son who had passed. As she approached, Thomas couldn’t help but let all of the emotion flood out. After 6 years of dating, it all lead to this moment. I was crying behind my lens, the weight of this moment, I can still feel it.

Praise Jesus for these two and their story, I am so grateful to call these two friends. Ray is one of a kind, and she married a one of a kind man. Forever lucky to call them friends, and to have grown closer and closer to them over the past year. This job brings many people into my life, but these two, these two are special. You can view their downtown Greenville engagements here, and Ray’s gorgeous Charleston bridals here.
